Academic Life

A bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University consists of the core (general education and religious education) and the major. These complement each other and ideally are integrated throughout the student's journey to obtain a bachelor's degree. The skills and knowledge derived from a robust liberal arts education equip students with competencies that provide versatility in employment and a foundation for life-long learning and service.

The integration of sacred and secular knowledge is the hallmark of a BYU education. While the Aims of a BYU Education states that all disciplines should be a "bathed in the light and color of the restored gospel," religion courses engage the student mind and heart in an ever deeper understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ through close and meticulous study of the scriptures and teachings of the living prophets.

Admission Application Tips

Submit the application by the appropriate application deadlines.
Please note that housing options are dependent upon what is available on any given room selection date.
Students who choose to apply for and attend summer term will have priority selection for fall on-campus housing and fall class registration.
Students should apply for the semester or term for which they wish to attend. Requests to change beginning semesters may not be accommodated.
The admission criteria are the same for all entry dates. One semester or term is not easier to get into over another.
Applicants intending to serve an LDS mission can view full information about deferring here.
Applicants will need to submit a transcript for any concurrent college credit received.
Any international work must be submitted through IERF or WES. See Evaluating International Work for more information. BYU will only accept official US-accredited transcripts without an evaluation.
