Academic Life
The University of Bridgeport offers career-oriented undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees and programs for people seeking personal and professional growth. The University promotes academic excellence, personal responsibility, and commitment to service. Distinctive curricula in an international, culturally diverse supportive learning environment prepare graduates for life and leadership in an increasingly interconnected world. The University is independent and non-sectarian.
Campus Life
The University of Bridgeport is located fifty-five miles from New York City in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Bridgeport, Connecticut's largest city, borders the 50-acre campus to the north; Seaside Park and Long Island Sound, with some of the finest sandy beaches between New York and Cape Cod, mark the southern boundary. The unique location of the campus offers a variety of advantages to the University community. The Sound and the Park are settings for studies in marine biology and for the enjoyment of sun and recreation. The city and county provide opportunities for becoming involved in work-study programs with schools, government and some of the country's largest corporations.
At the University of Bridgeport, student involvement and leadership in extracurricular activities is encouraged and celebrated. The Office for Campus Activities and Community Services serves to advise and assist students with their programming efforts, provides new student orientation programming and coordinates local volunteer and community service opportunities for students.
Over 40 registered clubs and organizations exist to provide students with numerous opportunities to participate in social, educational and cultural activities. The Office also publishes weekly and monthly activity calendars to keep the campus community updated on student events.
Facilities and Resources
The plethora of choices you will make while a college student, the everyday social contacts you will have with each other and with members of the faculty and staff, and interaction in the residence hall, are all examples of co-curricular education. The members of the UB community believe that learning takes place both inside and outside of the classroom.
It is the hope and desire of the Division of Student Affairs to assist all students – both undergraduate and graduate – towards achieving their academic objectives through encouraging self-direction, and promoting personal development and wellness. Our emphasis is on helping students help themselves by acquiring information and skills, and by forming attitudes, insights, and understanding about one’s self and the world around them.
In support of the University's mission, the Division of Student Affairs strives to create a campus community that embraces and celebrates the uniqueness of our student body. To this end, we are committed to fostering the health and well-being of the UB community, while building meaningful partnerships which promote personal growth, development and achievement for our students. We work to build an environment that fosters UB pride and traditions and develops engaged and responsible leaders for global change. Student Affairs serves as a resource to the students, faculty, staff and community.
